On 12 June 2020, the NATO-led Kosovo Force (KFOR) marked its 21st anniversary. KFOR’s mission remains unchanged. Based on UN Security Council Resolution 1244 of 1999, about 3400 troops provided by 27 NATO members and partners continue to contribute towards maintaining a safe and secure environment in Kosovo and freedom of movement for all communities in Kosovo.
For over two decades, KFOR has made a major contribution to stability and security in the Western Balkans region. NATO also continues to offer strong political support to the EU-facilitated dialogue between Belgrade-Pristina as the only way to provide a lasting solution to consolidate regional stability.
Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, KFOR has maintained its ability to conduct its day-to-day operations. At the same time, it has provided assistance to local institutions in Kosovo to different communities and municipalities, including donating significant amounts of personal protective equipment. KFOR has been fully implementing the preventive measures recommended by the World Health Organization for the protection of military personnel.
